Bobby G. Smith

Bobby G. Smith, 74, of Commiskey, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at the home of his granddaughter.

Born May 3, 1943 in Leslie County, Kentucky, Mr. Smith was the son of Coonie and Nancy Ann Wombles Smith. He married Ruby Reynolds on August 29, 1964 in Clintwood, Virginia; she survives.

Mr. Smith worked as a cross country truck driver for several years before retiring in 2016. He was a member of North Vernon Senior Citizens Center where he played bluegrass in their band on the guitar and banjo.  Mr. Smith loved his grandkids and VW Bugs, listening to bluegrass and gospel music, attending car shows, traveling, and doing body work and painting on cars.

Surviving with his wife Ruby are a son, Richard Smith of Commiskey; daughter, Beverly (Ric Perkins) Smith of Greensburg; brother, Donald (Patty) Smith of Columbus; sisters, Connie (Bob) Hill of North Vernon and Diane Ferguson of Texas; grandchildren, Jessica (Ross) Franklin of Commiskey; Amanda (Matthew) Harmon of Brownstown, Natasha Mazza of Carrollton, Kentucky, Lester Peacock of Crothersville, Indiana, Richard Coonie Smith of Madison and Tanner (Becca) Smith of North Vernon and seventeen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Bobby Joe Smith.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in the Pisgah United Methodist Cemetery in Deputy.
