John Raymond Fair

John Raymond Fair, 87, of North Vernon passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Seymour Place in Seymour.

Born February 3, 1930 in Indianapolis, Mr. Fair was the son of the late Raymond and Freida Dawson Fair. He married Margie Carpenter on July 17, 1960; she preceded him in death on November 30, 1995.

Mr. Fair was a 1948 graduate of Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Fair worked 31 years for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus from 1964 until his retirement in 1995 and was a Deputy Sheriff for Jennings County for 8 years during Clyde Perkin’s term in 1960’s. He was a member of Shriners in North Vernon and Jennings County Republican Party and a former member of North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59.  Mr. Fair enjoyed being with family, watching sports on TV,  playing cards, going to the Senior Center, traveling and going to or watching NASCAR and the Indianapolis 500. In his younger days he enjoyed pitching for softball teams.

He is survived by his son, John (Tammy) Fair of North Vernon; daughter, Vicki (Jay) Lerer of Santa Monica, California; brother, Leon (Evelyn) Fair of North Vernon and Paul (Sheila) Fair of Yountsville, California; sister, Lois (Jim) Loos of  Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Josef (Aaron) Lerer of Santa Monica, California, John Dawson Fair of Fort Wayne and Raymond Avery Fair of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and a sister, Anna Margaret Fair Mick.

A Masonic Memorial Service for Mr. Fair will be conducted at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon by members of North Vernon Lodge #59 at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 with funeral service to follow.  Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until time of masonic services. Military rites will be provided by the local V.F.W. at the funeral home after the service. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
