Gary Beck Hamel

Gary Beck Hamel, 74, of Butlerville, passed away at 3:56 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.

Born August 2, 1949, in Anderson, he was the son of the late Sylvester Oliver “Beck” and Dorothy Alice (Patterson) Hamel.

Gary attended Holton High School in Holton and had worked for Jen-Acres Farms and as a steel cutter for North Vernon Forge for several years. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his daughters, Laura Hamel and Cassie (Doug) May, both of Butlerville; brother, Ben Hamel of Butlerville; sister, Karen (Robert) Boswell of Butlerville; grandchildren, Josiah Hamel, Tommy (Katrina) Johnson and Tyler Sword, all of Butlerville, Brent (Paula) McMillian of Commiskey, Orin (Aishia) Johnson of North Vernon, and Kayonna (Kezie) Sword of Columbus; six great-grandchildren; and uncle, Alvie “Sonny” (Janice) Patterson of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Melissa Johnson; and brother, William Wright.

A visitation for Gary will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. A graveside service will follow the visitation in the Otter Creek Cemetery in Butlerville.

Memorials in honor of Gary may be made through the funeral home to the Wounded Warriors Project.
