Harold "Harry" Melton Obituary

Harold “Harry” Melton, 69, of North Vernon, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 5:17 p.m.

Born April 3, 1954, in Hazard, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Polly Jane Melton Wooten. He was married to Tina Bryant-Melton in their hearts for 24 years and on paper for 2 years and 8 months; she survives.

Harry attended school in Hazard, Kentucky and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy from November 18, 1971, until November 17, 1975. He worked as a machinist for NTN Driveshaft in Walesboro for 5 years before retiring in 2008. He had also worked at Wal-Mart Distribution in Seymour and as a reach truck driver for Lowes Distribution in North Vernon for fifteen years. Harry was a jack-of-all-trades and enjoyed woodcarving and carpentry.

Surviving with his wife are his children, Damon (Shaunda) Melton, Patricia (Kenny) Hall, and Cody (Anna) Melton, all of Washington, and Logan Melton of North Vernon; stepchildren, Joshua Acree of North Vernon, Jason (Destiny) Acree of Seymour, Bradley (Molly) Acree of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Adam (Racheal) Acree of Butlerville; brothers, Danny (Danielle) Wooten of Scipio and William (Kim) Wooten of Commiskey; grandchildren, Dakota (Destiny) Shipley of Columbus, Chloe Prewitt of Tennessee, and Taylor Frank, Payton Frank, Hayden Frank, Bryson Frank, Skylar Frank, Emma Dillon, and Kiana Sarduy, all of Washington; step grandchildren, Gavin Hurley of North Vernon, Noah Acree of Seymour, Shealynn Herr of Scipio, Bryant Acree of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kurdt Austin and Jordan Cone, both of Butlerville; and great grandchildren, Jensen Shipley, Jackson Shipley, and Zoey Shipley, all of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his mother; sisters, Patsy Melton, Imogene Clemons, and Gloria Clemons; brother, James Clemons; and grandchild, Celeste Nellenback Mabe.

A funeral service for Harry will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with Rev. Don Morris officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery with military graveside honors given by members of Matt Hester VFW Post #2021.

Memorial donations may be made in honor of Harry through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society or to Mercy Rescue.
