William "Bill" Amis Obituary

William “Bill” Amis, 79, of Vevay, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Swiss Villa in Vevay.

Born May 16, 1944, in Los Angeles, California, he was the son of the late Ora and Maxine (Allen) Amis. He married Patricia (Ross) Amis on April 12, 1965, at the Church of God in Nebraska; she survives.

Bill graduated from North Vernon High School in 1964 and worked as an over-road truck driver for several years. He loved to fish, hunt, and watch sports, especially the Indianapolis Colts, I.U. basketball, and the Cincinnati Reds.

Surviving with his wife are his sons, Pete (Lauren) Amis of Winder, Georgia and Michael Amis of Vevay; daughters, Liesl (Ryan Miller) Manlief of North Vernon and Julia Alvarado of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, Glen Amis and Allen Amis, both of North Vernon; sisters, Darlene (Danny) Stark, Brenda McIntosh, and Vickie Ann (Gary) Edwards, all of North Vernon; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dan) Beirne of Charleston, South Carolina, Riley Amis, Walker Amis, and Wyatt Amis, all of Winder, Georgia, Nichelle (Freddy Gonzalez) Alvarado and Jennifer Alvarado, both of San Antonio, Texas, Megan (Daniel) Mendez of Beeville, Texas, Chelsea (Jacob Benavente) Alvarado and Daniel Alvarado, both of Austin, Texas, Matthew (Peyton) Alvarado of Ft. Carson, Colorado, and Mitchell Miller of North Vernon; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ronald Amis; and his sister, Dorothy Brock.

Cremation is planned with a burial in Vernon Cemetery to be held at a later date. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon were entrusted to the care of these arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home in honor of Bill to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
