Alice Jerrie George, 80, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019, at her residence.
Born December 3, 1938 in Scott County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Elijah and Ethel (Wilson) Spicer. She married Vernon George Sr. in November of 1954 in North Vernon; he preceded her in death on April 22, 1997.
Alice worked for the Columbus Republic Newspaper, delivering the paper and making collections for several years; and had been an over the road truck driver and custodian for Rock Creek School. She attended Messiah Baptist Church in Columbus and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Vernon George Jr. of Elizabethtown; daughters, Beva Barnsfather of North Vernon, Brenda Rogers and Terri (Ken) Miller, both of Florida; step-mother, Ruby Spicer of North Vernon; brother, Ken (Sharon) Spicer of Plant City, Florida; sister, Helen (Charlie) Graham of Hayden; grandchildren, Chelsea Hinkley of Michigan, Savannah Miller and Joseph Miller, both of Florida, Jennifer Robertson of Butlerville and Amanda Barnsfather of Marengo; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at the Messiah Baptist Church in Columbus, the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until time of service. Private burial will take place. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon was entrusted with arrangements.
Memorials in honor of Alice may be made through the funeral home for expenses.
