Anita Mae (Simmons) Ashpaugh

Anita Mae Ashpaugh, 78, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:22 p.m. on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.

Born, May 6, 1939 in Jennings County, Ms. Ashpaugh was the daughter of Emerson and Georgia Sorrell Simmons.

Ms. Ashpaugh worked five years as cook and dishwasher for the North Vernon Nursing Home retiring when the nursing home closed, she had previously worked for the former Cardinal Grill Restaurant and Brooksie’s Café in North Vernon. She was a member of Coffee Creek Baptist Church in Paris Crossing. Ms. Ashpaugh enjoyed visiting with friends, shopping and flowers.

Survivors include her sister, Velma Boardman of North Vernon, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Norma Jean Owens, Dorothy Corya, Joy Ann Owens and Veda VanArsdale.

A funeral service for Ms. Ashpaugh, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, December 28, 2017, 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be in the Coffee Creek Christian Church Cemetery in Paris Crossing.
