Anthony “Tony” Staten, 86, of North Vernon passed away at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

Born July 21, 1931, in Jennings County, Mr. Staten was the son of George and Lucy Shaklett Staten. He married Doreice Taylor on February 21, 1960. She preceded him in death on December 25, 1984.

Mr. Staten worked as an engineer for Cummins Engine Company for 30 years retiring on December 1, 1988, and was owner of B&B Taxi service in Seymour for five years. He was a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for 11 years serving with sheriff’s Perry Cummings and Dick Wilson. Mr. Staten attended St. Mary’s and North Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from October 1, 1955 to July 1, 1958. He enjoyed reading, yard work and was an all-around do it yourself handyman who could fix anything. He was taking lessons to earn his pilot license.

Survivors include his daughters, Fran Staten of North Vernon and Tanya Staten of Las Vegas, Nevada; and his only remaining sibling, Betty Brown of Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, Jessie, Howard, Lester, Edward, George, Eugene, William and Robert; and sisters, Juanita, Emma, Louise, Bessie and Delores.

In keeping with his wishes cremation is planned. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon.

 

 

Memorials may be made in honor of Mr. Staten to the Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home.
