Charles Richard Filson, 66, of Columbus, passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at the Heritage House in Greensburg.
Born November 22, 1952, in North Vernon, he was the son of Richard and Ramona (Dudley) Filson.
Charles was a 1970 graduate of Jennings County High School and served as a Sargent in the U.S. Air Force from 1972-1978 and served in Vietnam. He worked as a shift supervisor for 8 years at Erler’s Industries and was a EMT in Elkhart. He was a member of the American Legion. Charles enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, astrology, assembling toy model cars, coloring in adult coloring books and loved Star Trek.
He is survived by his sons, Tim (Marilyn) Filson of North Vernon, and Chad (Kacey Pierce) Filson and Cory Filson, both of South Bend; daughters, Ramona (Chris) Holmes of Columbus, Nicole Kovach of South Bend, and Kyrstn (Danny) Helson of Bowling Green, Kentucky; sisters, Pam (Rex) Baxter of Flat Rock and Margaret Hoppus of Greensburg; and grandchildren, Jake Filson, Penny Filson, Brynn Filson and E.J. Kovach, all of South Bend, Liam Filson of North Vernon, Abel Helson of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Jayden Holmes and Tristen Filson, both of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steve Filson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service with Jessica Gibson officiating. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
