Charley Akers, 72, of Deputy, passed away at 1:11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany.
Born September 12, 1946, in Seymour, he was the son of James and Bessie (Smith) Akers. He married Carma Lamb on February 14, 1995, at the Commiskey Baptist Church in Commiskey; she survives.
Charley was a lifelong concrete finisher (union) and worked production for AISIN USA in Seymour for ten years retiring in 2009. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Deputy. Charley enjoyed ginseng hunting, and carving walking canes.
Survivors include his wife, Carma Akers of Deputy; sons, Joey Akers of Seymour, Tommy Akers of Austin, Edward Akers of Scottsburg, and Jeremiah Akers of Deputy; daughters, Tina (Donnie) Ebershauser of Madison, Bessie McIntosh of Crothersville, Hannah (Jeremy) Ebershauser of Austin, and Victoria Akers of Deputy; brother, Paul (Diane) Akers of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; sisters, Josie (Ronnie) Sawyer of Retreat, Sherry Caldwell and Janita Pennington, both of Scottsburg; and seventeen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy, Gary, and James “Buddy” Akers; and sisters, Clara Campbell, Wanda Grigsby, Debbie Owsley and Joyce Plersinger.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2019, at the Bethany Baptist Church in Deputy. Family and Friends may call at the church on Monday, June 10, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Bethany Cemetery at a later date.
