Danny Joe Matney, 70, of Commiskey, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at his residence.
Born December 25, 1947, in Danville, Illinois, Mr. Matney, was the son of the late, Frank and Gladys L. (Baker) Matney. He married Vickie McIntosh on September 1, 1973 at the New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson County. She survives.
Mr. Matney was a 1967 graduate of North Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1972. He was a lifelong farmer, drove a school bus for Jennings County for several years, and was a member of The Point in Seymour. Mr. Matney enjoyed restoring old tractors and old trucks.
Surviving with his wife, Vickie Matney, is a son, John Matney of Commiskey; daughters, Sarah Matney and Alexis (Joe) Ruddick, both of Commiskey; brothers, Robert Joe (Debbie) Matney and Donald Frank (Debbie) Matney, both of Commiskey; sister, Ann Margaret (Eddie) Couch of Scottsburg; and grandchildren, Drew Goins, Sophie Ruddick and Lincoln Ruddick, all of Commiskey.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with Reverend Steve Greene officiating. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be in the Cana Cemetery in Jennings County.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Don & Dana Meyers Cancer Center, The Point, or Schneck Hospice.
