Doris Pearl Bowman Ivy, 75, of Rowlett, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019, at the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center at Lake Pointe in Rowlett, Texas.
Mrs. Ivy was born July 7, 1943, in Jennings County, Indiana, the daughter of Graham Martin and Dorothy Jane Rudicel Bowman.
Growing up on a small farm near Scipio, Indiana, Mrs. Ivy was a 1961 graduate of North Vernon High School and graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. A second Master’s degree was completed at the University of Texas in Library Science. She spent many years as a librarian in public schools in Texas after having taught high school science in California and Michigan. Mrs. Ivy also worked for the Occupational Technology Assistant Network in California for several years before returning to Texas.
Mrs. Ivy was married to Henry Ivy, Jr., August 18, 1972, in Columbia, Missouri.
Survivors include: husband Henry (Hank) Ivy, Jr. of Rowlett, TX; son Henry Ivy, III (Monica) of Sachshe, TX; daughter Sarah (Daniel) Singleton of Sophia, Bulgaria; David (Janey) Bowman double-first cousin; six grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Ivy is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Carolyn Burkman and Mary Jane Bowman.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 420 South State Street, North Vernon, Indiana 47265. Visitation with the family from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until time of service.
Mrs. Ivy was an active member of the Texas Gamma Theta chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa International sorority. They have named their annual scholarship award after her.
