Edith Elaine "Edie" (Young) Schildknecht

Edith Elaine “Edie” Schildknecht, 65, of North Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Our Hospice Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Born August 7, 1952 in Jennings County, Edie was the daughter of Ed and Martha Austin Young. She married James Schildknecht on December 1, 1980 in Tennessee and he survives.

Edie was a 1970 graduate of Jennings County High School and was employed with the Jennings County Probation Department for 38 years. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino boats.

Surviving with her husband James are daughters Rachel Campbell of North Vernon and Tonya Schildknecht of Columbus, stepson Brady Schildknecht of Annapolis, Maryland; stepdaughter Teresa (Jeff) Even of Lakeland, Florida; a brother Bob Young of Madison; grandchildren Nathan, Katie, and David Even all of Lakeland, Florida, Chris, Caitlyn, and Carmen Campbell and Joe Smith all of North Vernon, and Thomas Hancock of Columbus.

Edie was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Jenny Lamb.

According to Edie’s wishes, cremation is planned and a Time of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon.

Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society.
