Elizabeth Kirk Obituary

Elizabeth Jane Kirk, 90, of Columbus passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at her residence.

Born September 2, 1927, in Hazelton, Mrs. Kirk was the daughter of Paul Franklin and Esther Pearl Davidson Ellis. She married Karl Kae Kirk on July 14, 1950, in Hazelton. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2005.

Mrs. Kirk was a 1945 graduate of Hazelton High School and a graduate of the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. Mrs. Kirk worked as the Public Health Nurse in Jennings County, she had also worked for Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for 30 years and a nurse for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus. She was a member of Sandy Hook United Methodist Church in Columbus, Order of the Eastern Star in Paoli, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was a former member of North Vernon United Methodist Church, former Cub Scout Leader, Red Cross volunteer and Jennings County Band Parent. Mrs. Kirk enjoyed genealogy, gardening, painting pictures, camping and was a seamstress.

Survivors include sons, Kenneth Karl (Vikki) Kirk of North Vernon, and John Joseph Kirk of Columbus; a daughter, Susan Kirk (Michael) Turner of Columbus; brother, Robert (Millie) Ellis of Henderson, Nevada; grandchildren, Chad (Jodi) Kirk and Joe (Kim) Smith both of North Vernon, Brigette Tookes of Indianapolis, Carrie (Chris) Ogle of Letts, Craig (Melissa) Kirk and  Katherine Henderson both of Columbus, Elizabeth (Don) Crater of Uniontown, Paul Turner of Kansas City, Missouri, Esther Kirk of Seymour, Kacey Farrell of Versailles, and 17 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great-granddaughter, Khairhee Kirk Anderson and two brothers, Paul and Joseph Ellis.

A funeral service for Mrs. Kirk will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 10:00 a.m.  until the time of service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
