Ernest Callahan

Ernest Callahan, 96, of Westport, passed away at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at his residence.

Born October 6, 1921, in Perry County, Kentucky, Mr. Callahan was the son of Daw and Vina Ison Callahan. He married Shirley Asher on September 13, 1947, in Whitesburg, Kentucky. She survives.

Mr. Callahan was a farmer and a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1942-1947. He was a former member of Queensville Community Church in Queensville and Crossroad Community Church in Jennings County. Mr. Callahan enjoyed farming, mechanical work, working in his shop and camping.

Surviving with his wife, Shirley Callahan, are sons, Wayne Morris (Gelane) Callahan of Westport and Russell D. Callahan of Columbus; sisters, Athelene Callahan of North Vernon, Stella Crabtree of Dayton, Ohio and Bertha (Lawrence) Duncan of Virginia; grandchildren, Jeanna (Tim) Jackson of North Vernon, Bridgett (Michael) Harper of Fort Wayne and Jimmy Callahan of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Jesse Ritchie and Jodi Ritchie both of North Vernon, Chloi Harper and Sydni Harper both of Fort Wayne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Coleman Callahan.

A funeral service for Mr. Callahan will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
