Eugene Foster Tibbetts, 83, of North Vernon, passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Brown County Health and Living Community in Nashville.
Born June 20, 1935, in Ben Davis, Eugene was the son of the late Frank L. and Dorothy G. (Bryant) Tibbetts. He married Robin (Spicer) Madden Tibbetts on November 11, 2017 at Muscatatuck County Park; she survives.
Eugene attended school in Martinsville. He served in the United States Army from 1958 until 1964 where he was stationed in Korea in the artillery division. He went on to work as a lab tech and in maintenance for Edward H. Schmidt Optical in Indianapolis from 1965 until 1994. Starting in 1999, he worked as a lab tech and sales associate for the optical department of Walmart in Seymour before becoming a sales associate in the electronics department in 2006. He later retired from Walmart in North Vernon. Eugene had been a member of Am Vets since 1997. He enjoyed walking, slot machines, and spending time with his family, dogs, and cat.
Surviving with his wife, Robin (Spicer) Madden Tibbetts, are his step-sons, Timothy (Shaunee) Ruark of North Vernon and Tyler (Kayla) Spicer of Deputy; step-daughters, Sarah (Matt) Ritchie of Hayden and Ashley Austerman of Elizabethtown; and eighteen step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Grace Tibbetts, and his parents, Frank L. and Dorothy G. (Bryant) Tibbetts.
A funeral service for Eugene will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison with V.F.W. rites administered.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Humane Society of Jennings County.
