Garnett York Sr., 84, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Majestic Care in North Vernon.
Born September 11, 1935, he was the son of the late Genevieve York. He married Rosemary (Grigsby) York on June 9, 1973, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee; she preceded him in death on February 10, 2018.
Garnett served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He went on work for Majestic Care in North Vernon for 10 years, as a CNA for Community Care in Columbus, and as an attendant at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for 21 years. He was a member of the 2nd United Methodist Church in North Vernon and enjoyed being in the Air Force, collecting antiques, traveling, attending church, and running a resale shop.
He is survived by his sons, Keith (Lisa Peyton) York of Bloomington and Eric (Norma) York of Phelan, California; daughters, Genny York of Columbus and Mary York of Lafayette; grandchildren, Michael (Tia) York of Lafayette, Jon (Marcia) Mack, Jason Mack, and Chris Mack, all of Columbus, Jeremiah York and Elizabeth York, both of Lancaster, California, and Mallory (Latham) Hawkins of Indianapolis; and great-grandchildren, Serinty Mack, Isiah Mack, Noah Mack, Olivia Mack, Nevah Griffin, Tia Wells, Mallory Talty, Jesse York, Malia Johnson, Brookln York, Malachi Wilder, Miles Wilder, Sophie Wilder, and Josiah Tramell.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemary York; son, Garnett York Jr.; and ex-wife, Mary York.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation is planned with no services to be held at this time. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services were entrusted to the care of the arrangements.
