Helen Marie Thompson, 82, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:05 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Born October 5, 1934 in Coles County, Illinois, Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Paxton Hamilton. She married Dale Edward Thompson on January 1, 1953 in Lerna, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 4, 2002.
Mrs. Thompson worked as a Quality Inspector for General Electric in Shelbyville and worked in the food department for Wal-Mart in North Vernon. Mrs. Thompson was a former member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Am Vet’s and Eagles Lodges all in North Vernon. She enjoyed reading, NASCAR and being with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her son, Marty (Donna) Thompson of Bowling Green, Kentucky; daughters, Cindy (Barbara Edman) Thompson of North Vernon and Paula (Bob) Benton of Oregon, Ohio; son in-law, Cork Fenter of Troy Ohio; daughter in-law, Sheila Thompson of Mt. Sterling, Illinois; brother, Harold Hamilton of Atwood, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren, thirty two great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son, Brian W. Thompson on July 26, 2009; brother, Hugh Hamilton, sisters, Lois Pennington, Cynthia Whitworth, Martha Ward, Mildred Foote, Mary A. Hutsing and Rita Johnson and great-grandson, James Benton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with Chaplain Jennie Prior officiating. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
