Herschel Eugene Stoner, 86, of North Vernon, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019, at his residence.
Born December 3, 1932, in Jennings County, he was the son of James A. and Maggie (Gwynn) Stoner. He married Norma Jean (Born) Stoner on November 13, 1955 at the First Christian Church in North Vernon; she survives.
Herschel was a 1950 graduate of Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, retiring in 1989, and was a farmer. Herschel was a member of the First Christian Church and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, cutting wood, woodworking, gardening, farming, being outdoors and volunteering at church.
Surviving with his wife, Norma Stoner, is a son, Brian Stoner of North Vernon; daughters, Melanie Stoner of Los Angeles, California, Kim (John) Wetzel of Seymour and Marcy (Allen) Clark of North Vernon; brothers, Jesse Stoner of North Vernon and Norman (Carolyn) Stoner of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Jason (Cheryl) Wetzel of North Vernon and Matt (Jenna) LaMaster of Michigan; and great-grandchildren, Chloe and Kyla LaMaster, both of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori Stoner and brothers, Marshall and Marvin Stoner.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Chaplain Kevin Carty officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, October 13, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
