Jake Austin Hammond, 21, of North Vernon, passed away on October 16, 2019, at his residence.
Born June 17, 1998, in Columbus, he was the son of Mont Hammond and Natalie (Brown) Vance; they survive.
Jake graduated from Jennings County High School and was attending IU Southeast for his bachelor’s degree. He worked picking orders for the Amazon Fulfilment Center in Jeffersonville. He was a self-taught guitar player and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his father, Mont (Melissa) Hammond of Scipio; mother, Natalie (Leslie) Vance of North Vernon; sister, Kaylee Hammond of North Vernon; step-sisters, Cheyanne Vance and Alexandria Vance, both of Madison; grandparents, Judy Andrew and James and Carnita McPherson, all of Madison, Steve Brown of Columbus, and Jim and Elizabeth Hammond, both of Scipio; and aunts and uncles, Andy Hammond of Scipio, Jennifer Long of Reddington, Phil and Tiffany Franklin of Columbus, and Brice and Katie McPherson of Aurora, Colorado.
A funeral service for Jake will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Brett Luker officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to a Scholarship Fund to be established in Jacob's Honor.
