Johanna M. Hankins, 64, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:38 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at her residence.
Born March 16, 1955, in Denver, Colorado, she was the daughter of Ed Sheehy and Merle (Bond) Passet. She married Gene Hankins on December 8, 1982, in American Fork, Utah; he survives.
Johanna attended San Dieguito High School in Encinitas, California and Ricks College in Idaho. She worked for Miller’s Tavern and the former Regal Rugs and Country Club all in North Vernon and Stream Cliff Farms in Commiskey. Johanna was a member of Butlerville Mennonite Church, Madison and North Vernon V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and Madison Regatta. She enjoyed antiques, sewing, traveling, cooking; and she loved being with her family.
Surviving with her husband, Gene Hankins; are daughters, Haley (Jason) Smotherman of Indianapolis and Hanna (Brandon Smith) Hankins of Seymour; step-children, Scott Douglas Hankins of North Vernon, Kelly S. Shepherd of Columbus and Shannon Renee Gasper of North Vernon; brother, Walt “Wally” Passet of Encinitas, California; sister, Margaret “Maggie” Nichols of North Vernon; grandchildren, Aaron Michael Jackson Jr. of Hayden, Tiffany Fields, Braden Gasper, Derek Gasper, and Megan Gasper, all of North Vernon, Eden Shepherd of Irvine, California, and Andy Shepherd of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Blakely, Kane, Kason, Aidee, and Emmit, all of North Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jana Hankins; and sister, Irene Mitchel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery in Boone County, Kentucky.
