John Charles Thompson, 71, of North Vernon passed away at 5:10 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018, at Majestic Health Care Center in North Vernon.
Born March 8, 1947 in Griffin, Georgia, Mr. Thompson was the son of the late, Richard Francis and Ruth Evelyn (Duke) Mitchell.
Mr. Thompson was a graduate of Torrance High School in California and was a truck driver for several years driving for Schneider Trucking. He was a lifetime member of NRA. Mr. Thompson enjoyed making things, fixing vehicles, shooting guns and loved his dogs.
Survivors include his son, Jason “Spike” (Elizabeth) Rogers of California; daughter, Brooke Thompson of Columbus; step-son Daniel (Sam) Thompson of Columbus; brothers, Brad Thompson of Australia and Richard Thompson of Georgia; sisters, Rosanna Lamb of Georgia and Carol Thompson of California; grandchildren, Camelle Guenthenspberger, Gabrielle and Sophia Thompson and Austin Ruse all of Columbus, and Evelina Susanna Rogers of California. .
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation is planned. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at the State Street Community Worship Center in North Vernon.
Memorials in honor of Mr. Thompson may be made through the funeral home to help with expenses.
