John Ewing Wright, 81, of Commiskey passed away at 5:48 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany.
Born January 1, 1937 in Indianapolis, Mr. Wright was the son of Finis Ewing and Mayme Taylor Wright. He married Bettie Johnson on May 27, 1954 in North Vernon. She survives.
Mr. Wright was a farmer and repaired farm equipment for Cordes Hardware in Seymour and Dicus in Hanover and worked construction. He was a member of Coffee Creek Christian Church in Paris Crossing. He enjoyed farming, livestock and spending time with his family.
Surviving with his wife, Bettie Wright, are a son, David (Fran) Wright of Commiskey; daughters Barbara (Garry) Ross and Sandra Wright both of Commiskey and Pamela (Mitchell) Royalty of Paris Crossing; daughter-in-law, Nancy Wright of Commiskey; grandchildren, Anna Thompson, Lisa (James) Setser, Leah Wright, Bobby (Amber) Halbert, Ashley (Paul) Tingle all of Commiskey, Jordan Royalty, Taylor Royalty and Erial Royalty all of Paris Crossing, Raeann Wright of Seymour, Marla Wright of West Lafayette, Becky (Tyson) Hall of Columbus, Lori (Byron) Melton of Rockingham, North Carolina, and Billy (Katie) Halbert of Conroe, Texas; great-grandchildren, Brooke Thompson, Bradley and Victoria Setser, Emily Wright, Alyssa, Jaiden and Kyle Tingle, Lauren and Alexis Halbert, and Robbie Brown all of Commiskey, Hannah Willhite of Paris Crossing, Logan Hall of Columbus, Evan Roark of Scottsburg, Molly and Caroline Halbert both of Conroe, Texas, David Roark and Sage Melton both of Rockingham, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark Wright, brother, Shirley Wright, sisters, Frances Glaze and Avis Harris.
A funeral service for Mr. Wright will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at the Coffee Creek Christian Church in Paris Crossing with the Rev. Will Smith and Rev. Dan Corbin officiating. Family and Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Jennings County.
