M. Yvonne (Ricketts) Atkins

M. Yvonne Atkins, 93, of North Vernon passed away at 4:55 p.m.  on Sunday, August 19, 2018, in Brownstown.  

Born August 31, 1924 in North Vernon, Mrs. Atkins was the daughter of George W. and Phoebe (Clarkson) Ricketts. She married William Robert “Bill” Atkins, on January 27, 1946 at the First Baptist Church in North Vernon, Indiana; he preceded her in death on April 18, 2015.

Mrs. Atkins was a 1942 graduate of North Vernon High School and worked as a teacher assistant for North Vernon Elementary and Hayden Elementary. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Golda Nicholson Circle, a former Sunday School and Bible School teacher at First Baptist Church and a former member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. Mrs. Atkins enjoyed talking and visiting with friends.

She is survived by son, Mark D. (Cheryl) Atkins of Columbus, Indiana; daughter, Cheri Carter of Seymour; sister, Bonnie Karst of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Colby (Peggy) Carter of Brownstown, Greg Carter, Jr. of Manhattan, Kansas, Michelle Benton of Baltimore, Maryland, Ashley Grammer and Audra (Jason) Rocker both of Columbus; fourteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Denise Atkins, and a sister Peggy Waltz.

A funeral service for Mrs. Atkins will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the First Baptist Church.
