Born November 6, 1932, in McPherson County, Kansas, Marna was the daughter of Henry and Olga (Schmidt) Pauls. Marna graduated from Inman High School in Inman, Kansas in 1950, where she was a member of the women’s basketball team.

Marna travelled to Columbus, Indiana by train in 1950 where she met the love of her life, Leroy Sanders. They were married on May 27, 1951 in Madison, Indiana. They were married for 64 years and had 8 children. Marna relished her role as mother, wife, home-keeper, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She also cared for three foster children for a short time. She will always be remembered for her baking skills, especially her cinnamon rolls (plain, peanut butter and pineapple). She was fondly called “Grandma Eats”. She greatly enjoyed working outside in her garden and flowers. She was a lifetime supporter of local school sports and band; and enjoyed watching sports on TV in her later years, especially her Kansas Jayhawks and Indiana Pacers.

Marna is survived by her children, Rik L. (Kathy) Sanders of Columbus, Ronald D. (Angie) Sanders, Tammy L. (Dan) Hill, Rodney A. (Ronda) Sanders all of North Vernon, Roger W. (Kristi) Sanders of Franklin; daughter-in-law Jill Sanders of North Vernon and daughter-in-law Pam Sanders of Indianapolis. Also, Logan L. Spaulding (foster son) of Chicago, Illinois. Two sisters, Norma (Fred) Gordon of Florida, and Deloris Crank Giles of Hutchinson, Kansas.  She has 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, expecting another great-grandchild in March and June.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sons, Randle K. Sanders, Rusty J. Sanders and Rex G. Sanders, two foster children, Candy Spaulding Lowe and Jay Spaulding; and sisters Verna Colley, Ruby Greenfield, Lynda Borth, Luella Atkinson; and brothers Kenny Pauls, Walt Pauls, Laverne Pauls, and Harvey Pauls.
