Mary E. (Fletcher) Johnson

Mary E. Johnson died peacefully at her home in North Vernon, IN on August 1, 2019 at the age of 87.

Mary was born on December 24, 1931 in North Vernon, IN to Hiram and Frances (Day) Fletcher. She married Brown Johnson on December 23, 1948 in Madison, IN. Over nine years, the couple welcomed five children into their home. Her children remember her as a loving mother who always put her family first. Mary was a member of Otter Creek Baptist Church.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Theresa (Randy) Clendenning of Jackson, SC; son, Ronald (Cheryl Wilds) Johnson of Smyrna, TN; brother, Dan Fletcher of Fontana, CA; sister, Alice (Stan) Fletcher-Yates of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Daryl (Christina) Amis, Christina Bertram, Cassi (Steve Gilbert) Smith, Holly (Darren) Mills, Kara (Toby) Bausback, Elisa Fry, Eddie Pettit, Emily (Billy) McCorkle, Sarah (Chris Epler) Johnson, Cierra Johnson, and Shania Johnson; 21 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Brown Johnson; children, Granville B. Johnson, Starene Bertram, and Mary (Cookie) Gillespie; brothers, Thomas Fletcher, Leon Fletcher, and Columbia Fletcher; sister, Irene Brandt; and grandson, Gary Amis.

A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon, IN with Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at the Dupont Cemetery in Dupont, IN. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary’s life. Memorials may be made in honor of Mary through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
