Mary Elizabeth White, 91, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:55 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at her residence.
Born on September 14, 1927, in Russell County, Kentucky, Mrs. White was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Willie Pearl (Kearnes) Stapp. She married Willard White on June 20, 1998 in North Vernon; he preceded her in death on August 30, 2005.
Mrs. White was a resident of Indiana since 1947. She worked as a custodian for Jennings County High School for 5 years and had previously worked housekeeping for the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville. She was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church. Mrs. White enjoyed reading the Bible, gardening, fishing, cooking, canning, and sewing, having made her children’s clothes.
Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Sanders and Carolyn Hill, both of North Vernon, and Judy Lane and Pamela Janes, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Brian Coffey and Doug (Jodie) Coffey, both of North Vernon, Cindy (Marc) Emminger of Scipio, Stacia Lane and Eric Rudicel, both of Columbus, Betsy (Matt) Haynes of Bloomington, and Melissa (Mark) Caudill of Butlerville; eighteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Aldon, Adrian and Eldon Stapp; sisters, Alene Watkins and Pauline Chapman; and grandsons, John “J.C.” Calhoun II and Scott Lane.
A funeral service for Mrs. White will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
