Matthew Wayne Adkins, 59, of North Vernon, passed away at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Majestic Care in North Vernon.
Mr. Adkins was the son of Lonnie Adkins and Rosemary Grigsby Adkins York.
Mr. Adkins graduated from Jennings County High School in 1977 before serving in the United States Air Force until 1980. He later went on to work at Arvin Meritor in Columbus for 17 years and served as a chef’s apprentice for both Left Bank in Columbus and Vincenzo’s in Louisville, Kentucky. He acted as treasurer for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union in Columbus. He enjoyed NASCAR, visiting Civil War sights, and collecting Civil War memorabilia. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds baseball team, the Indiana Pacers basketball team, and the Indianapolis Colts football team..
He is survived by his son, Lonnie (Heather Tabor) Hatton of North Vernon; brother Ronnie (Ann) Adkins of Greensboro, North Carolina; sister Kathy (Luther) Houser of North Vernon; stepfather, Garnett York of North Vernon; step brothers Keith (Lisa) York of Bloomington and Rev. Eric (Norma) York of Phelan, California; and step sisters Jenieve York of Columbus and Mary (Frances) York of Maryville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Terry Adkins.
A funeral service for Mr. Adkins will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Jake Arnold officiating. Family and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to cover expenses.
