Robert Eugene McCreery

Robert Eugene McCreery, 83, of North Vernon passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Born July 29, 1934, in Austin, Indiana, Mr. McCreery was the son of Robert and Mildred Lowry McCreery. He married Esther Bernice Davis on January 6, 1978. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2004.

Mr. McCreery was a 1952 graduate of Deputy High School in Deputy and worked as the parts manager for Bill Dunfee Chevrolet for 30 years, he had previously worked for Columbus Auto Supply for two years and the B&O Railroad for two years. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and western movies.

Survivors include his sons, Mark (Kim) McCreery of North Vernon and Duane (Marsha) Terry of Edinburgh; daughters, Laura (Roger) James and Tara McCreery both of North Vernon, Mary Jo (David) Burton and Denise Bowles both of Edinburgh; ex-wife of 18 years,  Ellen Hammersley Gatrell, daughter-in-law, Karen Terry of St. Louis, Missouri;  twenty-three grandchildren and forty nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; two nephews, Jim (Cindy) McCreery of Bedford and Scott Haley of Edinburgh; nieces, Sandra Woods and Yvette Smiley of Brandenburg, Kentucky and Tonya Haley of New York.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bernice McCreery; son, Doug Terry; daughter, Sherry Davis and brother, Bill McCreery.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Edinburgh Church of the Nazarene in Edinburgh with Rev. Jim Hudson and Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Family and Friends may call at the Edinburgh Church of the Nazarene in Edinburgh on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Edinburgh Church of the Nazarene.
