Ronald Garwood I Obituary

Ronald Thomas Garwood I, 76, of North Vernon passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018, at his residence.

Born April 27, 1942, in Indianapolis, the son of Chester Russell and Maurita Spurling Garwood. He married Carlotta Whitaker on December 9, 1975 in Indianapolis; she preceded him in death on December 4, 1990.

Mr. Garwood was self-employed working in retail, he had previously worked for Lee’s Ready Mix and Green Meadows Flea Market both in North Vernon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching tv, especially Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, NASCAR and boxing.

Survivors include his son, Ronald T. Garwood II, of Columbus; daughters, Tina Marie Henry of Pearl, Mississippi, Stephanie Ann (David) Ohaver of Cole City, Donna Jo (Brian) Lacey of Greenwood, and Katie (Gene) Berry of St. Joseph, Missouri; brothers, Charles Robert Best of Greensburg, Richard Dale (Debbie) Elliott, Roger Earl (Darla) Buell, and David Dwayne (Shelly) Buell, all of Indianapolis, Billy McCrary of Louisville, Kentucky, and Robert (Mary Ann) Garwood of Mississippi; sisters, Nora Jean (Ronald) Cromer of Bull Head, Arizona, Jesse Marie Buell of Indianapolis and Sandy Callahan of Greensburg; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and lots of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carlotta Rose Whitaker Garwood; companion, Diana Matthews; brothers, John Edward Elliott, Harry Lowe Buell, and Jack Garwood; sister, Angela Rose Elliott; and grandson, Deven Overstreet.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the Star Baptist Cemetery in Adams, Indiana with the Rev. Dan Denney officiating. Arrangements were entrusted with the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the American Diabetes Association.
