Shirley Marie Callahan, 88, of Westport, passed away at 12:03 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Born June 21, 1929, in Leatherwood, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Dill and Lizzle McDaniel Asher. She married Ernest Callahan on September 13, 1947, in Whitesburg, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2017.
Mrs. Callahan was a homemaker and had previously worked for six months at Vernon Summer Furniture and Oxford Industries. She was a former member of Waco Baptist Church in Waco, Kentucky, Queensville Community Church in Queensville and Crossroads Community Church in Jennings County. She enjoyed reading, flowers, gardening and canning.
Survivors include sons, Wayne Morris (Gelane) Callahan of Westport and Russell D. Callahan of Columbus; grandchildren, Jeanna (Tim) Jackson of North Vernon, Bridgett (Michael) Harper of Fort Wayne and Jimmy Callahan of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Jesse Ritchie and Jodi Ritchie both of North Vernon, Chloi Harper and Sydni Harper both of Fort Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant sister, and brothers, Delmar, Pearl, John, Will, Ray, Claude and Dan Asher
A funeral service for Mrs. Callahan will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, April 20, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
