Thomas Riley Maitlen, 92, of North Vernon passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at I. U. Health West Hospital in Avon.
Born January 1, 1926 in Portland, Mr. Maitlen was the son of the late Charles Robert and Alpha Green Maitlen. He married Barbara Jean Sims on February 16, 1946 in Muncie. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2013.
Mr. Maitlen served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1949 and worked as the household goods quality Inspector for Lear Seigler in Seymour for 23 years before retiring in 1993 and had formerly worked for Delco-Remy in Muncie. He was a member of Weston Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church both in North Vernon. He enjoyed farming, restoring antiques and being outdoors.
He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Boyce of Plainfield; sister, June Zimmerman of Decatur; grandchildren, Lisa Boyce of Louisville, Kentucky, and Eric (Katie) Boyce of Coatesville; great grandchildren, Isaac, Taylor and Maitlyn Boyce all of Coatesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Charles, Robert, Jack, Ronald, Richard & Fred Maitlen and sisters, Virginia Mauck and Marian Fritz.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until time of service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Alzheimer’s Association.
