Verna Dew Caldwell, 92, of Paris Crossing, passed away at 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover.
Born January 25, 1926, in Lancaster, Mrs. Caldwell was the daughter of Harold and Ida (Cole) Monroe. She married Rev. Dennie Franklin Caldwell on August 19, 1950, in Maysville, Kentucky; he preceded her in death on May 15, 2013.
Mrs. Caldwell was a homemaker and had previously worked for the Madison Shoe Factory. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, hiking and taking walks.
Survivors include her sons, Wayne (Linda) Smith of Umatilla, Florida, Sam Smith of Mount Dora, Florida and David J. (Carolyn) Smith of Bellingham, Washington; grandchildren, Larry (Missy) Smith of Mazama, Washington, Silver Smith and Daisy (Clayton) Ward both of Bellingham, Washington, and Todd (Rhajon) Smith of Greenville, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Andrew Ponder and Lauren Ponder of Bellingham, Washington, Scarlett Ponder of Memphis, Tennessee and Alethia Smith of Greenville, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Melvin Phillips; and sisters, Martha Rea, Nellie Monroe, and Leona Warren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Salvation Army.
