Vernon Pickett Obituary

Vernon Milton Pickett, 91, of Noblesville, passed away at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville.

Born October 19, 1926, in Jennings County, Mr. Pickett was the son of the late Alva and Bertha Wilson Pickett. He married Charlotte Harding on June 24, 1949, in North Vernon. She survives.

Mr. Pickett was a 1944 graduate of North Vernon High School and received an Associate’s Degree from Purdue University. He served in the U. S. Navy from December 1943 until June 1946.

Mr. Pickett worked as an Industrial Engineer for General Motors in Kokomo for 34 years. He was a 50 plus year member of North Vernon Masonic Lodge F.&A.M. and North Vernon Chapter #183 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of York Rite of Indiana #104 in Kokomo, First Baptist Church in North Vernon and VVV-Family Association (Vawter, Vauter and Vaughter(s) Family Association) and a life member of NRA. He enjoyed traveling, genealogy and spending time with his family.

Surviving with his wife of 68  years, Charlotte Pickett are sons, Larry (Maureen) Pickett of Kokomo and Gary Pickett of Bunker Hill; daughters, Marilyn Gipson of Noblesville, Linda (Dan) Randall of Kokomo, Diana (Doug) Stevens of Springfield, Ohio and Debbie (Mark) Deisch of Kempton, Indiana; grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Cosier of Boston, Massachusetts, Ashley (Cory) Coykendall of Kokomo, Brad (Becky) Stevens of New Carlisle, Ohio, Katy (Mike) Ferrell of Springfield, Ohio, Jordan Pickett of Bunker Hill, Joshua Pickett of Kokomo, Jennifer Pickett of Indianapolis, Amy Pickett of Avon, Jarred Pickett of Longmont, Colorado, Heath Pickett of Rossville, Darcey Deisch of Houston, Texas, Lauren Shelton of Kempton, and Tanner Deisch of Greensboro, North Carolina and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Monica Pickett; five brothers, Dallas, Maurice, Denver, Ralph and Raymond Pickett and two sisters, Neva Fendley and Nina Duckett.

A funeral service for Mr. Pickett will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until time of service.  Masonic memorial service will be conducted by members of North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59 at the beginning of the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon with military graveside rites.
