Victoria Jean "Vicky" (Leahigh) Helms

Victoria Jean “Vicky” Helms, 63, of North Vernon and formerly of Butlerville, passed away on January 4, 2019, at her residence.

Born May 23, 1955 in Seymour, Vicky was the daughter of the late Paul Loren and Betty Ann (Fleming) Leahigh. She married Charles Helms on December 10, 2008 in North Vernon; he preceded her in death on November 19, 2016.

Vicky was a 1973 graduate of Jennings County High School and worked as switchboard/dispatcher for INDOT before retiring in 2010; she had previously worked housekeeping for Muscatatuck State Developmental Center for 26 years. Vicky attended Bethel Baptist Church and was a member of the Columbia Afternoon Extension Club, Nebraska Church of God, Starlite Ladies Bowling League, and Jennings County Republican Party, where she served as vice-president of the Jennings County Republican Women’s Group, Jennings County Republican Woman of the Year 2015 and a Vice Precinct Committeeman. She enjoyed bowling, boating and NASCAR.

Survivors include her daughter, Amy (John) McCanlis of North Vernon; step-daughters, Traci Baldwin of Florida, and Rebecca Trusty of Lawrenceburg; sister, Jennifer (Curt) Jarrell of North Vernon; grandchildren, Trenton Baldwin, Elisabeth Baldwin, Hayven McCanlis, and Zayne McCanlis, all of North Vernon, Seaiara Trusty, and Blaise Stith, both of Lawrenceburg, and Jordan Hunsucker of Florida; and great-grandchild, Delilah Baldwin of North Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Alan Paul Mullins; and sister, Rebecca Noffsinger.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Ricky Persons officiating. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019, and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Butlerville Cemetery in Butlerville.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Columbia Afternoon Extension Club.
