Virginia Colleen Clarkson-Mason, 89, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:35 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2019, at Majestic Health Care in North Vernon.
Born December 11, 1929, in Ukiah, California, she was the daughter of Stanley and Nellie (Lownes) Olmstead. She married Ronald C. “Skip” Mason Sr. in 1992, in St Augustine, Florida. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2008.
Virginia was a graduate of Madison High School and worked as a bookkeeper for Jacksonville Real Estate in Jacksonville, Florida. She was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church and a former member of North Vernon Chapter #183, Order of the Eastern Star. Virginia enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, and bingo. She loved playing cards, especially euchre, and was an avid sports fan.
She is survived by her son, Stanley Ray Clarkson of North Vernon; daughters, Neysa Cumberworth of North Vernon and Colleen (Daniel) Gatewood of Westport; grandchildren, Stacey (Dayna) Harsh, Casey (Tammy) Harsh, Troy (Kattie) Harsh, Kaleigh (Brandon) Luedeman, Valerie (Dean) Hardison, Vanessa Gatewood, Shawn (Sharon) Gatewood, Josh (Rebecca) Gatewood, Heather Clarkson, John (Megan) Clarkson, Samantha Clarkson, and Maria Clarkson; 28 great-grandchildren and five -great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; Francis Clarkson, 2nd husband, Ronald C. “Skip” Mason Sr.; daughter, Belinda Clarkson; and grandson, Roger Cumberworth Jr.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Connie Barr officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorials may be made in honor of Virginia through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
