Wilma Hughes Obituary

Wilma Mae Hughes, 81, of North Vernon passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at her residence.

Born September 13, 1936 at home in Lovett Township of Jennings County, Mrs. Hughes was the daughter of the late Arthur and Myra Malcomb Branham. She married Michael Lee Hughes on April 22, 1956, at the Weston Baptist Church in Jennings County. He survives.

Mrs. Hughes was a 1954 graduate of Paris Crossing High School in Paris Crossing. She retired from the former Regal Rugs Factory in North Vernon where she worked in Payroll. She was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church, where she was the Primary Age Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years, she was the former president of American Baptist Women. Mrs. Hughes enjoyed cooking, especially for her family, making picture collages, flower gardening, bird watching and she loved spending Saturdays with her Great-Grandkids.

Surviving with her husband of 61 years, Michael Hughes are a son, Roger A. (Gayle) Hughes of North Vernon; daughters, Cathy Jo Heath of Commiskey and Marcia L. (Rick) McGill of North Vernon; brothers, Robert Malcomb (Cathy) Branham, Harlan Branham, Larry Norman (Eydie) Branham, Danny (Julie) Branham, Dale Branham and Steve (Teresa) Branham all of North Vernon; sister, Marilyn (John) Caradonna of Commerce Township, Michigan; brother-in-law, Russ Graves of Winston Salem, North Carolina; grandchild, Caryle Heath of Westport and great-grandchildren, Kalleigh and Walker Morrow both of Westport.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Catherine Graves.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018, at the Tea Creek Baptist Church in Jennings County. Family and Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon on Sunday, March 4, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the Church. Burial will be in the Tea Creek Baptist Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Tea Creek Baptist Church, Tea Creek Baptist Cemetery Fund or Schneck Medical Center Hospice.
