Allen Roy Thompson

Allen Roy Thompson, 82, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:06 p.m. on January 9, 2025, at his residence.

Born April 25, 1942, in Stearns, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Estle and Lucille (Strunk) Thompson. He married Betty Lewis on July 18, 1959, in Sneedville, Tennessee; she survives.

Allen attended Kingdom Come High School and Williamsburg Kentucky College. He worked for Cummins Engine Company for 31-years before retiring and was a Union Board Member of 15 years. He had previously worked as a coal miner in Eastern Kentucky. He was a member of the Alert Church, Odd Fellow Lodge #681 in Westport and 50-year member of Butlerville Masonic Lodge #219 in Butlerville. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, taking trip to Bass Pro Shop, Kentucky Wildcat Fan, playing and coaching baseball and won championship at Cummins. Allen loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

Surviving with his wife, Betty; is his daughters, Kristy Lynn (Larry) Miller of Gulf Shores, Alabama and Rhonda (Mike) Green of North Vernon; daughter-in-law, Lisa Thompson of Paragon; sisters, Vonda Lewis of Gordan, Kentucky and Wilma Thompson of Stearns, Kentucky; grandchildren, Cory (Chad) Thompson of Louisville, Kentucky, Kayla Lamb, Brittany (Ryan) Olds, Clinton (Haley) Miller, Justin (Courtney) Ponsler, Evan (Taylor) Ponsler, Dakota (Kylee Walters) Ponsler, Blake (Emma Moffett) Ponsler, all of North Vernon, Sara (Tony) Gudgel of Commiskey, Jacob Thompson and Johnathan Thompson, both of Columbus, Katie (Daniel) Thompson of Westport, Angie (Nate) Robert and Adam (Brenda) Fulford, both of Paragon, Greyson Miller of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Siobhan (Greg)  McWhiter of Montana; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy Thompson; and brother, Larry Thompson.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Alert Church in Alert with the Rev. Connie Barr officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Masonic memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Saturday 25, 2025, by members of Butlerville Masonic Lodge #219.  Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service were entrusted with arrangements.
