Alson Eugene Murphy

Alson Eugene Murphy, 78, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:36 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana in Columbus.

Born April 15, 1945, in California, he was the son of the late Alson and Norma Murphy. He married Catherine “Katie” (Harris) Murphy on August 8, 1965, in Burbank, California; she preceded him in death on February 17, 2024.

Alson worked for American Axle Manufacturing in North Vernon for over twenty years before retiring in 2019. He enjoyed bowling, collecting coins, BMX racing, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son, Tom Murphy of Buffalo, New York; daughters, Robin (Chris Lydle) Murphy of North Vernon and Patty Pinto of Idaho; sister, Debbie Francis of Nevada; grandchildren, Kyle (Staci) Murphy of Illinois, Colin Lydle of North Vernon, Shaina Murphy and Sheila Murphy, both of Idaho, and Thomas Murphy, Lydia Murphy, and Samantha Murphy, all of Buffalo, New York; and great grandchildren, Daniel Gildea, Neveah Gildea, Emily Gildea, Elizabeth Gildea, and Zephyr Cantarero, all of Idaho, and Saxon Murphy, Scarlett Murphy, and Silas Murphy, all of Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Douglas Murphy; and grandsons, Michael David Butler and Matthew Pinto.

A private family service will be held for both Alson and his wife, Katie, at Hillcrest Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon.

Memorial donations may be made in honor of Alson to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
