Alvie Arnold Patterson Jr., 88, of North Vernon, passed away at 10:07 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at his residence.
Born September 22, 1937, in Anderson, he was the son of the late Alvie Patterson Sr. and Stella Josephine (Stringer) Patterson. He married Janice Ellis on December 14, 1957, at the Church of God at Nebraska in Jennings County; she survives.
Alvie worked as a mechanic and drove a school bus for Jennings County Schools. He was a member of the Church of God at Nebraska. Alvie enjoyed mowing grass, fishing, hunting, racing, playing shuffleboard and cats.
Surviving with his wife of 67 years, Janice, are his sons, Jeff (Robin) Patterson of North Vernon, James (Debbie) Patterson of Scottsburg, and Jerry (Trish) Patterson of Francesville; his daughters, Michelle (Rob) Taylor of Franklin, North Carolina and Julie (John) Head of Live Oak, Florida; grandchildren, Heather (Stacie) White of Francesville, Jerri Bliton of Columbus, John Head of Live Oak, Florida, Stephen Head of Live Oak, Florida, Jaime Wild of Covington, Kentucky, Jennifer Gunter of Carmel, Jacob Patterson of Louisville, Kentucky, Chris Martin of Scottsburg, Jared Patterson of Francesville, Jason (Cylee) Patterson of Francesville, Josh (Tayla) Taylor of Franklin, North Carolina, Zach Taylor of Hamlet, Tristan Taylor of Franklin, North Carolina, Jessica Patterson of North Vernon and Justin Patterson of North Vernon; twenty eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy Hamel.
A funeral for Alvie will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Church of God at Nebraska in Butlerville with the Rev. Bobby Leahigh and Rev. Ben Helton officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Burial will be at a later date in Otter Creek Cemetery in Butlerville.
Memorials in honor of Alvie made be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County, Church of God at Nebraska or Church of God at Nebraska Campground.
