Barbara (Kemp) Boyd

Barbara Boyd, 88, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on March 19, 2024, at Compass Park Franklin, Indiana, where she had resided for the past nine years.

She was born December 6, 1935, the daughter of the late Robert and Emma (Biehle) Kemp.  Barb married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Jack Boyd on August 23, 1953; He preceded her in death on February 19, 2012.

Barb was a graduate of Jennings County High School and worked in the dietary department for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville, Indiana and was a homemaker. She was a member of North Vernon Chapter #183, Order of the Eastern Star for 48 years, former member of Butlerville Methodist Church and a member of the Aurora Christian Church. In later years they retired to Aurora, Kentucky.  Both Barb and Jack were avid fishers and enjoyed several years on Kentucky Lake. 

Together they raised their five surviving children, Marshall (Kay) Boyd, of Butlerville, Indiana, Wesley (Melody) Boyd, of Zenas, Indiana, Gordon (Laurie) Boyd of Friendsville, Tennessee, daughter, Marlene (Buzz) Oursler, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Andy (Carol) Boyd, of San Jacinto, Indiana; 20 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren and counting. Also surviving are her twin sister Beaulah Yeager, and sisters, Melody Schiller, Rosie Kemp; and her extended family, staff, and residents, at the “Home” where they were a great support to the whole Boyd family. 

Preceding her in death along with her husband and parents; are sisters Mary and Judy Kemp, Anna Burkman, brother Donald Kemp, daughter-in-law Dola Boyd; a grandson Daniel Boyd; and a great-great-granddaughter, Lilly.    

Funeral Service for Barbara will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 25, 2024, at Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home 420 S. State Street, North Vernon, Indiana. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home from 3-7 p.m. Sunday March 24, 2024, and one hour prior to the service on Monday. North Vernon Chapter #183 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
