Barbara Ann (Mason) Brooks, 88, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:03 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.
Born November 29, 1936, in Middletown, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Anna M. (Wilhoit) Mason. She married Richard “Dick” Edwin Brooks on October 25, 1958, at Rush Branch Methodist Church; he preceded her in death on September 5, 2014.
Barbara graduated from Vernon High School in 1954. She went on to work as the cafeteria manager for Jennings County High School for 23 years. She had also owned Brooks Grocery in San Jacinto for three and a half years and worked for Jay-C for eight years and for Just Rite Supermarket. She was a current member of Jennings Church of Christ and a former member of Butlerville Mennonite Church and Rush Branch Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading and watching her great grandchildren play sports. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her cat, Wiskers.
She is survived by her son, David Allen (Nancy) Brooks of Bedford; daughter, Diana Lynn Love of North Vernon; grandchildren, Chelsea Brooks and Trisha (Robbie) Kinser, both of Bedford, Tyra (Dustin) Griffin of Columbus, and Mason (Kelsei) Love of North Vernon; great grandchildren, Ethan (Heather) Jarvis, Remi Love, Darian (Sam) Miller, Leeanna Hoover, Weston Love, Waylon Toliver, Kaley Ernstes, Ela Kinser, Lain Ernstes, Lainey Kinser, Brooklynn Wilkerson, Colton Kinser, Jake Love, Clara Bertola, M.J. Cooley, Brayden Griffin, Chesney Griffin, Carter Griffin, and Alana Griffin; and great-great grandchildren, Hunter, Maddox, Berkley, Payton, and Hudson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, William Edward Mason; and her son in-law, James Love.
A funeral service for Barbara will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Marvin Wright officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will follow at Graham Baptist Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in honor of Barbara through the funeral home to the Autism Science Foundation.
