Barbara Manthei Obituary

Barbara May Manthei, 90, of Butlerville, passed away at 11:38 a.m. on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

Born August 14, 1933, in North Vernon, she was the daughter of the late Carl Harold and Dencil (Waltermire) Henry. She married Jerald Manthei on August 30, 1952, in Indianapolis; he preceded her in death on March 9, 2010.

Barbara was a 1951 graduate of North Vernon High School. She worked as a DST for the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for ten years and had previously worked for Regal Rugs in North Vernon. She was a former member of the First Christian Church in North Vernon. Barbara enjoyed crocheting, reading, working crossword puzzles, playing Bingo, gardening, and canning.

Survivors include her sons, Jerald Lee Manthei Jr. of Butlerville, Richard Lynn Mathei of North Vernon, Steven Carl (Kathy) Manthei of Austin, Charles Eugene (Sue) Manthei of Indianapolis, and Harold David Manthei of Phoenix, Arizona; her daughters, Barbara JoAnn (Darryl) Cooper of New Palestine, and Christina Louise Manthei of Greensburg; brother, Richard Lee (Shannon) Henry of Commiskey; fourteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A graveside service for Barbara will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the Butlerville Cemetery in Butlerville with the Rev. Dan Corbin officiating. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Memorials in honor of Barbara may be made through the funeral home to The American Kidney Foundation or The American Diabetes Association.
