Betty Pauline Emily, 80, of North Vernon, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at her residence.
Born June 4, 1943, in Charlestown, she was the daughter of the late Carl William and Elsie Marie (Hunt) Heilman. She married Ross Emily on November 3, 1965, at the Wesleyan Church in North Vernon; he preceded her in death on March 21, 2017.
Betty was a housewife and homemaker and was a babysitter. She enjoyed going to yard sales, birdwatching, animals, talking on the phone, and watching soap operas and The Price Is Right. Betty loved taking car rides in the country and spending time with her grandkids and family.
Survivors include her sons, Rick (Jan) Heilman and Gary (Teresa) Monday, both North Vernon, and Steven (Liz) Heilman of Commiskey; daughter, Tamra (Brad) Weber of Columbus; brother, Carl (Henrietta) Heilman Jr. of North Vernon; sisters, Shirley Mazingo of Charlestown, Mildred Doogs of Springfield, Ohio and Margie (Wesley) Bear of North Vernon; special niece and best friend, Felicia “Suzie” Steining of Commiskey; grandchildren, Amanda (Shane) Blackburn, Macki Wilson, Skylar Weber, Justin (Liz) Tucker, and Tara (Austin) Renoll all of North Vernon; Willy (Ana) Heilman of West Lafayette, Wendy (Nick) Wright of Commiskey, Ashley (Braden) Grider of Noblesville, Amber (Zach) Nichols of Frankfort, Brandi (Ryan Kelly) Ashpaugh of Sellersburg, Adam Tucker of Columbus, Dana (Ken) Hawkins of Seymour, Hannah Combs of Dupont and Zach (Shawn) Combs of Henryville; twenty-two great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Alvie Monday; her second husband, Ross Emily; brothers, Paul “Bud” and Ralph Heilman; and sisters, Alice Sherfick, Thelma Gellhouse, Margaret Caldwell, Anna Thalacker and Martha Perry.
A funeral service for Betty will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Damon Marling officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be conducted on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorials may be made in honor of Betty through the funeral home to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
