Betty Marie Hoyt, 84, of North Vernon, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the home of her daughter.
Born May 26, 1941, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Earl King Jr. and Mary E. (Tungate) King. She married John Ray Hoyt on March 11, 2001, in Tennessee; he preceded her in death on September 4, 2012.
Betty was a homemaker and housewife; she had also worked for the North Vernon Nursing home and the Sugar Shack in North Vernon. She was a member of the Am Vets Ladies Auxiliary, Moose Lodge, Eagles, all in North Vernon and the North Vernon Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed flowers, drawing, dogs and all animals.
She is survived by her son, Leslie Richardson and Courtney of Holton; daughters, Dorothy Gorbett and Bruce of Norman, and Gail Sedam and Nathan of North Vernon; brother, Larry King of North Vernon; grandchildren, Jessica Sanders and Doug, Ashley Imlay and Brittany Stockelman and Adam, all of North Vernon, Caitlyn Sedam of Columbus, Jennifer Baird and Kendall of Mt. Healthy, Robin Gorbett of Norman, Tonya Montgomery and Will of Butlerville, Brandon Scott Richardson of Greensburg and Damin Richardson of Holton; and great-grandchildren, Jared Imlay of New York, Robert Montgomery and Riley Montgomery, both of Butlerville, Elizabeth Sanders, Carly Stockelman, Oakley Stockelman, and Remington Stockelman, all of North Vernon, and Jaxton Richardson and Ashton Richardson, both of Greensburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Gene Allen King and sister, Nancy Kay King.
A funeral service for Betty will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Floyd Fisher officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the time of the service. The burial will be later in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorials may be made in honor of Betty through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
