Carl Edward Day, 85, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at his residence.
Born January 6, 1940, in North Vernon, he was the son of Orville and Fern A. (Stub) Day. He married Helga Mayerthaler on December 29, 2013; in Scipio; she survives.
Carl was a 1958 graduate of North Vernon High School and worked as a meat cutter for Just Rite, Jay C Store, and Wal-Mart for a total of 45 years before retiring in 2012. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in North Vernon. Carl enjoyed fishing, gardening, flowers, building and being outdoors.
Surviving with his wife of 11 years, Helga, are his sons, Harold (Shelly) Day of Scipio, Alvin Day of Bedford and Carl Day Jr. of Colorado; daughter, Tammy Jo (David) Jaeger of Seymour; grandchildren, Ronni Jaeger and David Jaeger, both of Seymour, Corey Wetzel of Wilks Barre, Pennsylvania, Skylar Day of Cherry Point, North Carolina, Tara Herr and Travis Day, both of Scipio; and great-grandchildren, Land Day, Shealynn Herr, Scarlett Herr, Emerald Herr, and Ezra Herr, all of Scipio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley, who he married on June 12, 1959, and who preceded him on April 12, 1985; and his brother, Orville Joe Day.
A funeral service for Carl will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
