Carol Joyce (Long) Azbell

Carol Joyce Azbell, 85, of North Vernon passed away at 9:38 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

Born September 25, 1933, in Plymouth, Mrs. Azbell was the daughter of the late Orville J. and Mary Edna (Peterson) Long. She married Wendell Azbell on December 25, 1952, in Rochester; he survives.

Mrs. Azbell was a 1952 graduate of Talma High School in Fulton County, she worked for Pfeiffer’s Jewelry in North Vernon for 20 years retiring in 1995. Mrs. Azbell attended First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Rolling Hills Shrine Club, and a 50 plus year member of North Vernon Chapter #183, Order of the Eastern Star and a former Star Point officer. She enjoyed listening to music and spending time with her grandkids.

Surviving with her husband of 66 years, Wendell is a son, Troy Azbell of North Vernon; daughter, Sonja (Rob) Mills of North Vernon; son-in-law, Tom Clarkson of North Vernon; sister, Erma Copelan of Rochester; grandchildren, Amanda (Brian Dickson) Spurgeon of Greensburg, Rachel Clarkson of Columbus, Kyle Azbell, Jake Azbell, Payton Azbell, and Dawson Azbell, all of Carthage, Tennessee, Brandon (Rachel) Mills of North Vernon and Jared (Abby) Mills of Lenexa, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Brendan Spurgeon, and Ruby Spurgeon,  both of Greensburg,  Jace Mills, and Piper Mills, both of North Vernon, Rileigh Dickson, and Kal'el Dickson, both of Greensburg..

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Renae Clarkson; brothers, Charles, Orville, Merle, Donald and Harold Long; and sister, Clara Finney.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Marvin Sweet officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, January 17, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. An Eastern Star Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday by member of North Vernon Chapter #183, O.E.S. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County or First United Methodist Church, North Vernon.
