Carolyn Lou Rayburn, 77, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:53 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at her residence.
Born March 29, 1946, in Seymour, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Lillian (James) Wells. She married Phillip Wayne Rayburn on October 26, 1975, at Commiskey Baptist Church in Commiskey; he preceded her death on April 25, 2007.
Carolyn worked as the first cook for the White Front Restaurant for several years before going to work in dietary at the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center. She was a member of Commiskey Baptist Church and a former member of the Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W. Carolyn enjoyed shopping, being outdoors, and hummingbirds. She was an Elvis Presley fan.
Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Lynn (Jamie) Hauersperger of North Vernon; stepson, Tommy (Jennifer) Rayburn of North Vernon; sister, Rosalita Lucas of Madison; and nieces, Tia Davidson (Jerry Gabor) and Linda (Mike) Biehle, both of North Vernon and Della (Jon) Herche of Elizabethtown; and nephews, David Grant, and Cory Grant, both of Madison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Lisa Dawn Lovegrove; and sister, Janie (Down Ham) Burkhalter.
The funeral service for Carolyn will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Scott Kollman officiating. The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorials may be made in honor of Carolyn through the funeral home to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
