Catherine Lois "Katy" (Stearns) Zech

Catherine Lois “Katy” Zech, 85, of Seymour, passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at her residence.

Born January 11, 1940, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of the late Audley and Grace (Cannon) Stearns. She married Thomas Eugene Zech on December 24, 1958, in Seymour; he preceded her in death on December 30, 2011.

Katy worked as a clerk for Seymour Greenhouse in Seymour for 45 years before retiring in 2001. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church in North Vernon. Katy enjoyed knitting, gardening, horseback riding and making Christmas decorations.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Zech and Allison of North Vernon; her daughters, Karen Fleming of Jupiter, Florida and Cynthia Hill and Stacey of Indianapolis; sister, Sandra Gillespie of North Vernon; grandchildren, Mandy Pike, Marissa Norris, Alex Fleming, Ashley Zech, Carson and Henry Hill; seven great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Don and Fred Stearns; and sisters, Helen Hooker DeCamp, Alice Edmondson, Marilyn McIntosh and Linda Lutes.

A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Zion Baptist Church in North Vernon. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon.

Memorials in honor of Katy may be made through the funeral home to Zion Baptist Church.
