Catherine Sue (Spurlock) Nelson passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, after a long illness. Katie, as she was known by friends and family, was born in Vernon and was a lifelong resident of Jennings County. She will be remembered for her passion for local history and drive to preserve the past for others to enjoy. She collected many stories and pictures of early life in the county. Together with her late husband, Canden, they restored hundreds of vintage photos for display to local residents. She also enjoyed traveling, photography, reading, and working in her yard. She will be missed by family and friends.

A memorial gathering is planned for Monday, April 22, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon and is open to the public.

A private internment ceremony will be held at a later date for family and close friends.

Memorials may be given in honor of Catherine through the funeral home to the Jennings County Sheriff's Department or Jennings County Parks and Recreation.
